The Only Resolution You Must Make to Lose Weight
If one of your goals for 2007 was to lose weight then you are probably either really excited to get started or are already starting to get apathetic about it. Either way, if you’ve tried losing weight in the past and failed then you probably cannot even imagine staying with a successful weight loss program for an entire year with that same enthusiasm that you felt as the ball dropped and the big number lit up marking the beginning of a new year. However, I am going to direct your attention toward the only New Year’s resolution you must make and must keep, which is going to help you each and every day through your weight loss journey. That resolution is to TAKE ACTION NOW!
The biggest thing that keeps people from achieving their goals is procrastination. People always want a quick fix. And when their goals are to achieve something that is going to take time, they always look at all the work they have ahead of them and become overwhelmed. Then they say that it can always wait one more day or one more week. People are always looking for the time to be “just right”. They wait for that morning when they will wake up and be all pumped up to get started. They wait for that morning when they actually look forward to getting to the gym and working out like an animal. They wait until something just clicks inside of them and pushes them to get started. Does that sound like you? Is that what you are waiting for? Are you waiting for that perfect time or for something to click? Well then, here, CLICK!
DO NOT WAIT ANYMORE! Do something right now. That’s right, right now! And reading this article does not count. When is your next meal going to be? What are you planning on eating? Is it healthy? Is it loaded with sugar and fat and calories? Have you had a glass of water lately? Did you work out today? Is there still time to go to the gym? Don’t lie now; really is there still time to workout? Of course there is! If the gym is closed then go do some pushups and jumping jacks and crunches or run up and down your stairs a few times. Whatever you do, I don’t care. Just do something now! Then, when you’ve done something, come back to this article and continue reading, but go do something now first that is going to help you with that fat loss goal.

To those of you who listened to me, congratulations you are on your way. And that really wasn’t hard at all; it just takes a little initiative to get going. To those of you who didn’t listen, go look at yourself in the mirror. Look up and down and tell yourself whether or not you are happy with the way you look and feel. Are you happy with what you accomplished in terms of weight loss or fat loss or whatever your goals were in 2006? Be honest. Then, look yourself in the eye and explain to yourself why you can’t take action now. Really listen to your excuse and decide if it makes sense or not. Then think if there is a way around it. Believe me, if you can find a million ways around working out then you can find one way around a little excuse.
OK, let me get back to those of you who took action already. Start thinking about what is next. What can you do for the rest of the day? What will you do tomorrow? What will you do for the rest of the week? Now keep thinking and write down your plans. When are you going to workout? Is that enough? What are you going to eat? Is that good for you? Don’t know the best way to work out or eat? Then maybe you need to read a book. Or better yet, maybe you should finally hire that personal trainer that you’ve been wanting but have kept making excuses justifying to yourself why you shouldn’t spend the money to get what you really desire. But now is the time to take action and put the excuses to rest.
The greatest thing about having a New Year’s resolution of taking action toward achieving your goals now is that now is always with us. Think about that for a minute. You can never escape this resolution or put it off because the time is always now! Write down your goals on a sheet of paper and put it somewhere you will see it often. Now take a small piece of paper or a card (perhaps the back of a business card) and right on it: “TAKE ACTION NOW!” Put it in your pocket or your wallet and keep it with you. Better yet, keep that and your goals sheet or a copy of your goals sheet with you. Make it a point to look at the card every couple hours and always be ready to take action now! Do this and you will always be moving in the right direction toward achieving your goals.
